Hage re-appropriates the mythic insect of Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” but uses it as an expression of alienation based not on existential crisis but on class and culture. Alongside Andre Alexis’ Childhood and Lee Henderson’s The Man Game, this is one of my faves of the last ten years (not to discount how good De Niro’s Game is).
