Featured Children's Book: Once Upon a Pond by Peter Simon

JackFruit Press, 2007

Frog, Fish, and Turtle are very happy living in the beautiful pond. Fish swims between the reeds, Frog sunbathes on the lily pads, and Turtle makes a comfortable home amongst the rocks. Their idyllic home is also attractive to people who build their houses near the pond. But when the people take away the cattails and replace them with nice grass that they can sit on, in move the geese and out move Frog, Fish, and Turtle. A simple tale of a sustainable development, beautifully illustrated.

Peter Simon was born in Germany but grew up in Toronto. Peter studied and practised architecture before pursuing his interest in writing and painting about the natural environment. Once Upon A Pond is his first book. Peter is presently working in the field of urban forestry and working on his next book.
