Rain; road; an open boat

McClelland & Stewart, 2012

I jumped on this book when I spotted it in Mrs. Dalloway’s bookshop in Berkeley, California. Roo, my old chum going back to university days in Vancouver, grew up in Berkeley. Her childhood house in the hills above Claremount Hotel burned down in the big fire. She has written about this in many poems. I’ve climbed the hill to see what is there now: A monster home. A far cry from the rustic house her grandfather built.

"Yet even so the old house remains."

She writes about what is lost forever, yet found, in odd images, in memory.
