and nothing went wrong!

First off, congratulations to all the finalists for the 2009 Governor General's Award. I was pleased to see Sina Queyras nominated for her excellent book Expressway.

So, my launch last night was such a great experience, I don't even know how to express my gratitude to my many friends who helped me pull off all the bells and whistles and to everyone who came. Claudia Dey led me across a tightrope with grace, brilliance, and humour. It was like having Wallace Stevens' interior paramour by my side. I am such a fan of her writing, so to be read so closely and kindly by her was a dream. And the movie Chris Murphy and Rebecca Mendoza made was even more gorgeous projected onto a big screen. Once we've put it online, I will throw the link up here. My friend Tara whipped the listening booth together and it was just as I'd hoped it would be. And all the musicians — Kate Boothman, Wayne Petti, Greg Keelor, Jim Cuddy, Bazil Donovan, and my husband Mike Belitsky — were uniformly great. I am incredibly lucky to have such friends. And my husband in particular deserves special thanks for his absolutely unwavering support and patience. I'm humbled.

It was a really magic night for me. And tonight I have tickets to see Wilco at Massey Hall.

Well, aren't I having a terrible week.
