2013 NaNoWriMo Goes Mobile with Wattpad

From our friends at Wattpad and NaNoWriMo:

Wattpad, the world’s largest community of readers and writers, and National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), the world’s largest writing event, have teamed up to help writers around the world write a novel during the month of November. Both Wattpad and NaNoWriMo will offer a number of resources and incentives for writers who pledge to write a novel of at least 50,000 words in 30 days.

For the first time in NaNoWriMo history participants can upload their story on Wattpad and tag it with #NaNoWriMo for a chance to win a cash prize of $2,000. Writers who share their story on Wattpad will be exposed to a community of more than 19-million readers.

"A significant reason so many people have become successful novelists in NaNoWriMo is because of the community of support we provide online and in live events around the world. By partnering with Wattpad, we're adding even more social features to what's usually a solitary activity, writing," said Grant Faulkner, executive director of National Novel Writing Month. "Our goal is to empower today's writers by giving them the tools and community support they need to start and finish writing a novel in a month."

More than 500,000 people in approximately 100 countries are expected to participate in NaNoWriMo this year. In addition to its online community, NaNoWriMo's 700 municipal liaisons will host write-ins in 500 regions around the world. Additionally, teachers will teach novel writing in 2,000 classrooms with NaNoWriMo's free classroom resources, and NaNoWriMo's Come Write In program will connect writers with 600 libraries and other community spaces for cozy, communal write-ins.

“Writing an entire novel in a month is a huge accomplishment and should be celebrated,” said Ashleigh Gardner, Head of Publishing Partnerships at Wattpad. “NaNoWriMo stories shared on Wattpad will get in front of millions of readers around the world. And writers will get instant feedback on their stories via comments, votes and messages - it’s social storytelling.”

As an official sponsor, Wattpad will actively participate in NaNoWriMo via forums and blogs to connect directly with writers and share tips and resources. In early 2014, Wattpad will also participate in a NaNoWriMo-hosted webinar on the benefits of joining a writing community.
