Blog Recommendation: The Keepin' it Real Book Club

Share |

We're new fans of The Keepin' it Real Book Club. It's a terrific blog of "Bookish meanderings, rants and raves from book nerds gone digital." It started with a group of Queen's University students making it their mission to bring "to bring unabashed enthusiasm and personality" to their English lit classes, and soon the group formed a book club. Instead of all members reading the same book and discussing it, the book club was a forum for the friends to "present a book and talk about why it was wonderful." (Read the history of KIRBC here.) With university over, the club has moved online, and it's a great place to read a lot of smart book reviews. Currently, the group is caught up in the Canada Reads excitement, and for their new project, Civilians Read, they've brought together "five book-obsessed publishing types who have no shortage of opinions" to each defend one of the Canada Reads titles. KIRBC will be "releasing one podcast every day the week before Canada Reads." The first podcast is on March 1st.
