Derek Weiler, 1968 - 2009
Submitted by Open Book Toronto Guest on April 13, 2009 - 5:22pm
The lovely and amazing Derek Weiler has passed away, at the age of 40. Derek was such an influential and smart-as-a-whip voice in the Canadian publishing world. He was a writer and he was the editor of Quill & Quire, our industry's magazine. He also wrote about books for such publications as the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Driven and Chatelaine. He had deep insight...and a wonderfully dry wit. Quill & Quire writes about Derek here. Martin Levin, Books Editor at The Globe and Mail writes about Derek here. Steven W. Beattie gives tribute here. Vit Wagner writes about Derek in the Toronto Star here. Bookninja writes about Derek and so does the National Post. Open Book readers will recall his 48-Hour Interview with Kim McArthur in our Winter 2008 magazine. He will be greatly missed. Related item from our archives |
