Eden Mills Celebrates Its 19th Annual Writers' Festival

Tucked in a valley on the Eramosa River, the hamlet of Eden Mills celebrates its 19th annual Writers’ Festival on Sunday, September 9, 2007. Known for its enchanting rural setting, the festival has grown steadily in prestige and audiences gravitate to where great literature and a relaxed ambience flow like the quiet waters of the scenic Eramosa River. Three beautiful open-air sites on the banks of the Eramosa River host the main readings. In addition to these venues are the popular Aboriginal, Young Adult, Fringe, and Children’s sites, which run continuously throughout the afternoon.

The main street of Eden Mills is also transformed as Publishers’ Way, where book publishers and sellers, magazine producers, and non-profit groups such as PEN showcase their wares, and where authors sign their works. Live music is provided between reading sets and an array of refreshments can be enjoyed in a tented food court.

Eden Mills offers activities all weekend long. Take in some Friday night jazz with Dave McMurdo (trombone), Mike Malone (trumpet), Quinsin Nachoff (saxophone), Kevin Dempsey (drums), Geoff Young (guitar), and Pat Collins (bass). The event takes place after the jazz composers’ workshop, under the auspices of the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival.

On Saturday, September 8, learn about the life of a screenwriter, film and television industries, and some of the things you need
to know before you write your spellbinding script at Reel Writing: Screenwriting in the Real World, a seminar with a question-and-answer periods and discussions led by the panelists. Wine-and-cheese reception afterward.
