Elizabeth Hay Wins Giller Prize

Last night, Elizabeth Hay was awarded the Scotiabank Giller Prize for her third novel, Late Nights on Air. The prize is named in honour of Doris Giller and founded in 1994 by her husband, Toronto businessman Jack Rabinovitch. The Giller Prize awards $40,000 annually to the author of the best Canadian novel or short story collection.

The other authors on the 2007 shortlist were Michael Ondaatje for Divisadero, Daniel Poliquin for A Secret Between Us (trans. Donald Winkler), M.G. Vassanji for The Assassin's Song, and Alissa York for Effigy.
