The International Festival of Authors 2012 kicks off tonight! Check out our events listings for some of the highlights, or head over to the official website for a full schedule of the 70+ events coming up over the next 10 days!

The 33rd annual International Festival of Authors (IFOA) begins tonight with the PEN Canada Benefit with Rohinton Mistry, followed by 70 additional events featuring more than 200 participants running until October 28. The IFOA is pleased to announce further additions to its incomparable programme.

The IFOA congratulates those authors recently shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction as well as Canada’s top three fiction awards: Governor General’s Literary Award for English Fiction, Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and Scotiabank Giller Prize. An annual fixture of the Festival, the IFOA presents the following shortlisted writers in events celebrating their nominations:

Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction Finalists (October 21):
Kamal Al-Solaylee (Intolerable), Modris Eksteins (Solar Dance), Taras Grescoe (Straphanger), JJ Lee (The Measure of a Man) and Candace Savage (Geography of Blood)

Governor General’s Literary Award Finalists (October 22):
Tamas Dobozy (Siege 13), Robert Hough (Dr. Brinkley’s Tower), Vincent Lam (The Headmaster’s Wager), Carrie Snyder (The Juliet Stories) and Linda Spalding (The Purchase)

Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize Finalists (October 24):
Tim Bowling (The Tinsmith), Tamas Dobozy (Siege 13), Rawi Hage (Carnival), Alix Ohlin (Inside) and Linda Spalding (The Purchase)

Scotiabank Giller Prize Finalists (October 27):
Will Ferguson (419), Alix Ohlin (Inside), Nancy Richler (The Imposter Bride), Kim Thúy (Ru) and Russell Wangersky (Whirl Away)

Events take place at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre: 207 & 235 Queens Quay West. Tickets to most events are$18/$15 supporters and free for students and youth 25 years and under with valid ID (subject to availability). Some exceptions apply; please refer to individual event listings.
