MOVING STORIES FILM FESTIVAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Celebrating the written word on film

Moving Stories Film Festival will be a program of films, not just BookShort films, presented by means of industry and public screenings. We're calling on artists and filmmakers to submit their own work for inclusion.

It will be launched at the same time as BookExpo Canada, the national industry trade show for the book industry in Toronto. It will make its way across the country as a special event in festivals of literature and film and in lots of bookstores too.

We will curate films based on the theme of celebrating books and the written word in moving pictures. Plus there are a few simple criteria to make this Festival unique.

For instance, films are to be directly inspired by fiction, non-fiction or poetry in the form of a published short story, novella, poem, graphic novel or full length book.

And the written work upon which the film is based ought to be in print and available to the general public at the time of the Festival screenings (or pretty darn close to it) so that audiences can receive the full benefit of both cinema and printed word.

Our overall curatorial objective for the Festival is to support a standard of excellence in content, execution and entertainment value for this genre of short film. Our aim is to ensure that all the artists we work with - those in words, films and music - benefit through their industry and public experience in the Festival.

Send your film by February 15, 2008 with the $10 Early Bird Submission Fee plus a DVD and completed Submission Form to our snail mail address. Then watch for more news each month - announcements of jury members, screening events, and more.
