Nicholas Hoare Flagship Store to Close

Nicholas Hoare will close the doors of its last remaining location on April 1, the Quill & Quire reports. After over 40 years, the landmark shop on Front Street will not be renewing its lease, which ends March 31.

Since 1971, Nicholas Hoare has offered a range of carefully selected titles, showcasing the best of fiction, current affairs, travel, design, food, wine and unique books for children. As its locations in Ottawa and Montreal closed last year due to sharp rent increases, this announcement greatly saddens the store's loyal customers and the entire independent book-selling community.

Hoare, who turns 70 this year, will be retiring to his estate in Nova Scotia with plans to develop a vineyard and private library.
