Publisher Profile: Emond Montgomery Publications

Share |

At Open Book: Toronto and Open Book: Ontario, we celebrate books that are published in Canada, with an emphasis on Ontario’s independent publishers. In our new series of Publisher Profiles, we’ll feature publishers from across our beautiful province.

We’re kicking off the series with a profile of Emond Montgomery Publications, publishers of outstanding educational and professional resources. We spoke with Emond Montgomery's Marketing Assistant, Stacey Philipp, about the history of the company, the publisher's top-selling books and their fall publications.

Tell us about Emond Montgomery Publications.

Stacey Philipp:

Emond Montgomery Publications is regarded as one of Canada's finest educational and professional publishers. We offer publications for high school, higher education, law school, and legal practice. Our commitment to customer service and our passion for developing quality print and digital resources are the reasons for our success and are at the heart of what we do every day. We are focused on anticipating the changing needs of Canadian students, instructors, and legal professionals, and we are ideally suited to offer the national presence and capabilities of a larger company without sacrificing the individual attention on which we pride ourselves.

How did the company get started and how long has it been in business?

Paul Emond and Ann Montgomery founded the company in 1978 as a legal academic press, with a focus on publishing casebooks for the Canadian law school market. In 1984, the founding partners sold the company to Canada Law Book Holdings (later to become Cartwright Canada Inc.). On April 1, 2010, Paul and Jean Emond reacquired Emond Montgomery Publications from Cartwright Canada.

We are celebrating our 35th birthday this year!
