Roald Dahl Day Story-Writing Contest!
Submitted by Grace on August 22, 2011 - 9:40am
Small Print Toronto is celebrating their second annual Toronto Roald Rahl Day on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Gladstone Hotel on Queen Street. To mark the occasion, SPT is running a story-writing contest for 8-12 year olds, designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dahl's classic novel James and the Giant Peach. To enter, children are invited to craft a story (max. 1500 words) about what would happen if James, a lonely orphan living in today's Toronto, discovered a giant peach filled with friendly creatures. Send entries to roalddahlday@smallprinttoronto.org by no later than Friday, October 14, 2011. An all-star panel of judges will make the final decision. This year's judges include CBC Radio host and author Kevin Sylvester, authors Adrienne Kress, Evan Munday and Vikki VanSickle, Susan Kernohan, Director of Young Voices at the Toronto Public Library, Mark Medley, Books Editor at The National Post and Janet Somerville, English Teacher at Royal St George’s College. Prizes will be awarded at the second annual Toronto Roald Dahl Day and renowned author Kenneth Oppel has prepared a video address to the contestants. For more information, please visit the contest's Facebook page. Related item from our archives |
