Scream Literary Festival Wraps Up Summer 2011
Submitted by clelia on May 20, 2011 - 8:53am
All good things must come to an end; nonetheless, we are sad to learn that the beloved Scream Literary Festival is wrapping up this year. In an announcement posted on the Scream website, the festival's Artistic Director, Bill Kennedy, writes, "Shutting down the Scream has been no easy decision.... After many difficult discussions with those closest to the Scream, however, we came to the conclusion that it's better to end it well than to watch its contrarian spirit diminish." You can help the Scream end well by attending the opening night reading on Thursday, July 7th and the Mainstage in High Park on Monday, July 11th (details coming soon). In the meantime, you can show your love for the Scream by helping out with their final requests. The Scream is looking for volunteers; they are collecting materials from past Screams for their digital archives, which will be part of the opening night festivities; and they are inviting people to organize a literary event between Tuesday, July 5th and Sunday, July 10th (except for the night of the 7th) as part of “Wreck our brand™: a Scream unFestival." See the " target="_blank"Scream website for full details. Related item from our archives |
