Hooked: When Addiction Hits Home (Annick Press) is a non-fiction book for young adults. This collection of ten true stories is based on interviews with people who, in their youth, lived with an addicted parent or sibling. It was edited by Chloe Shantz-Hilkes with Decode and has an introduction by Robert Munsch. The subjects speak honestly about what it was like to grow up with a family member addicted to alcohol, drugs, food, pills or gambling.

Their maturity, sensitivity and even their sense of humour, forged through having to cope, allows teens going through similar situations to see that there are many ways to break free from the chains of others' addictions. A resource section at the end of the book helps youths with connections to a community that cares.

The Making of the Hooked book trailer

The video book trailer was conceived, directed, shot and edited by Aria Evans, one of MovingStories' young people training in production under the Canadian Media Production Association Transmedia program. In the piece, artist Arwen has used the visual concept of "unmasking" to represent the transformation of the courageous youths, from victims to survivors. She was dedicated to the same authenticity that Annick brings to all their book-to-film adaptations — the young lady that performed the role of "Jenny" really has had very intimate experiences with the subject matter addressed in the book. Like the other real-world youth, she too has overcome and is currently pursuing a terrific career. Aria also drew the background graphics for the piece. Sojourner Truth Parsons, who collaborated with Aria in the graphic design, is a working visual artist whose most recent gallery exhibition was presented by Katharine Mulherin Contemporary Art Projects in Toronto.
